First, I must apologize for the lack of blogging the last couple of months. Jesse and I have had a lot going on, but I just haven’t sat down to share. Now that I am covered in shingles on my face/head I guess I feel the need to blog. Last Thursday, I went to the doctor with pain and sensitivity in my head and face. I was given a Z Pack and a steroid to reduce the inflammation. Friday, I started to get some swelling in my face and a little bit red on the forehead. Saturday….things weren’t pretty. I had red welts covering my forehead and into my scalp, my right eye almost closed because of a welt on my eye. At this point I was getting upset because we were supposed to celebrate Justin and Christina’s marriage and I looked and felt like my head was bashed into a wall. I sent Jesse with Ian and Betsy to celebrate while I hid in my bedroom. By Sunday, Jesse and I were in the ER looking for answers. I was told I for sure had Shingles and had them in the worst spot you could ever get them. Apparently, because shingles deals with your nerves, it being on your head is painful because there are so many nerves on your head. I was given medicine to heal the shingles and lots of pain medication. Monday I saw an opthamologist to treat my eye. I guess shingles on your eye is not ideal! My cornia was not damaged, but I was to watch closely if the shingles started going down my nose. If this happens the shingles has taken over your optic nerve and then things get dangerous. So far, so good…no shingles on my nose and my eye is slowly healing, I think. So no teaching this week. It is hard to be gone from work for 5 days, but there is not way I could be up teaching. I go back to the doctor on Friday and should be back at work on Monday.
Everyone has been so generous to us! We have received flowers, food, and lots of love from everyone! My husband has been exceptional! He had to miss a work function on Sunday night and Monday to take me to the doctor. He has washed my hair with a cup and baby shampoo….good practice for him:) My dad also participated in taking me to the doctor since I can’t drive! So now you are updated on the random Shingles activity at the Lyon house. I am going to work on no stress and keeping well. Next week, I will be resting and eating lots of food for Thanksgiving! Thanks to everyone for all the prayers and love!! XOXO
PS. I am sure Jesse will have some kind of picture to add to this that is not the prettiest:)
