The shutter company came on Saturday to install our beautiful shutters. They are in the kitchen, den, dining room, and the front two bedrooms. We are so excited to have a private life now! All of our neighbors now wonder what we are doing and if we are at home.
We have pretty much finished the Guest Bathroom. Jesse’s grandparents stayed with us and were the first to use it! I believe the only thing we have left to do in here is the ceiling and our drawer pulls. If you can’t tell in the photos the walls are a very light grayish blue. We love it!
We aren’t done yet, but wow what a huge difference. Jesse took out the carpet in the sink area and linoleum floor in the bathtub area. It is amazing how much bigger it looks after making the floor one uniform tile and knocking out the ceiling. We are laying the tile as we speak and will grout the entire bathroom soon. After that we will texture the wall and paint. I just need to buy a mirror, sconces, toilet paper holder, towel bars, and paint. Again I must say Jesse has amazed me again at what he knows how to do. We have been doing all the work just the two of us and as you can imagine I am not much help on some items! Did I mention that Jesse is a pro at tile cutting?! Enjoy the update:)
Just to start out…we moved in this neighborhood primarily for the trees. We love being outside with Maddie and walking to the park. The trees surrounding our house are what sold the house! Don’t get me wrong, we had a vision with this house and it is feeling like home. We started with 2 very large trees in the front and 1 very, very large tree in the backyard.
Yesterday, Jesse walked outside to get the mail. The mail hadn’t arrived so he turned around to walk up our walkway. As he was going towards the door he saw leaves blowing really hard and watched our 45 foot tree fall into our yard and out into the street. Luckily, Jesse was not standing at the mailbox when the tree decided to fall or Jesse would be injured and as you all know we have had enough injuries. We are sad to lose the tree, but we will just plant another!
The funny thing is that all of our neighbors thought that we had chosen to cut down the tree into the street. I am sure they were all thinking that here these young people move in, remodel their house, and oh decide to take out our large, old trees. We thought about putting out a sign that said “we are mourning over the loss of our tree” just to make it very clear we did not cut it down.
The story gets better….our older asian neighbor came home to see the tree across our front yard and into the street also thinking that we had cut down “her” tree. Now, this tree is on our property, but for some reason she thinks it is her tree. If you have heard our mowing story about her you understand how we were feeling yesterday. We decided to not discuss with her at this point that this tree was in fact ours. Her and her older brother helped us clean up this massive tree. Despite the huge language barrier, Jesse was able to have the guy help him do some of the work. We are now waiting for the city of Richardson to come get it off of our grass. What a Thursday! We were planning on redoing the flowerbed that the tree took out anyway so we weren’t too mad about the whole thing. What an adventure it is owning a home!!

We finished our half-bath a couple of months ago, but I accidently erased the picture and thought I should repost it. We also started working on our guest bathroom last weekend. We have finished the tile in the bathtub, but it still needs grout. The cabinets in the bathroom have been painted and new hardware put on, but we still have the blue sponge painted walls to cover with something a little bit more calming. Other things we still have to complete in this room are light fixtures, mirror and texture the walls. We are hoping to finish it all in time for Art and Shirley to come stay with us from Canada. This weekend the project is tiling the floor. See the work in progress below:

Remodel in progress–Guest Bath:
We are so excited to finally have a completely finished, working kitchen that is beautiful! (minus the shutters) Over my spring break Jesse and I, yes I participated, completed our kitchen backsplash. Jesse amazes me with everything he knows about remodeling our home. We are looking forward to finishing the next project that we started on last weekend…the 2nd bathroom. After we complete the bathroom we really only have our master bath to do! We have made huge progress for those of you that have seen what it looked like originally. We also have ordered our plantation shutters to finish out our windows. Below is the most updated pictures of our kitchen. Now I just need to practice the cooking part:)
We have made huge headway on our house. It has taken me so long to put up pics because I want everyone to see it done! We have been working so hard to get everything remodeled and fixed to be “ours.”
Our proudest accomplishment is our kitchen/ family room/ dining room because it has had the biggest face lift. The only thing we have left to do is the back splash and framing out the walls we knocked out. Oh and my beautiful plantation shutters that are soon to come. It turned out so much better than we had expected. As soon as we get some furniture to fill both of our living rooms our place will really feel finished. Our dining room furniture is coming from Stef and Joe, but for now it is our kitchen table from Kelle. We also just finished our half bath which we gave a funky limish green color with black and white accents. Our plan is to remodel both of the bathrooms on the bedroom side of the house before May. Our house is really starting to feel like home to us. We can’t wait for everyone to come see it….but we have more work to complete and a construction zone to clean up before we have guests!
